Dr Valerie Gawron's autobiographical collection of anecdotes, Stories of My Life, is by turns frank and funny, nice and (a wee bit) naughty — and always loving, despite tragedies that she and her friends faced. A small cheerful sample of "One Liners", from her parents and herself:
- In response to a home economics teacher's question about progress on a baby bonnet project? — "Sew. Sew."
- When a waitress asks, "Do you want anything with that lasagna?" — "A plate."
- As to why one side of the V made by a flight of geese was longer than the other? — "More birds.
- Replying to "What's a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?" — "Leaving."
... happy moments and sad — a life full of blessings.
